Greenway Metal Recycling: More Than Just Recycling in Chicagoland

Commitment to Sustainability and Community Enrichment

At Greenway Metal Recycling, we’re all about doing our part for the environment. But it’s not just about recycling; it’s also about our local community in Chicagoland. We genuinely care and believe in making a real difference, both through our day-to-day work and our support for some amazing organizations.

We’re super proud to back groups like the Make-A-Wish Foundation and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, who do incredible things for kids in tough situations. We also love cheering on the future stars in Little League® Baseball and Softball. And we haven’t forgotten the importance of standing up against challenges like MS with the National Multiple Sclerosis Society or supporting our veterans through the National Veterans Foundation.

For us, it’s simple: we believe in doing good, both in our business and in our community. We’ve built strong ties over the years, and supporting these organizations is just one way we show our heart and commitment to the folks around us. Thanks for being part of our journey and helping us make Chicagoland even better!

The National Multiple Sclerosis Society (NMSS) is a preeminent nonprofit organization dedicated to ending the devastating impact of multiple sclerosis (MS), a chronic autoimmune disease of the central nervous system. Founded in 1946, the society has since been at the forefront of MS research, advocacy, education, and community support.

Operating with a vision of a world free of MS, the NMSS funds cutting-edge research to uncover the mysteries of this disease, identify improved treatments, and ultimately find a cure. Their comprehensive approach goes beyond research; they provide invaluable resources, educational programs, and support for the estimated one million people in the U.S. diagnosed with MS, ensuring that they, along with their families, can live their best lives.

Through a vast network of chapters and volunteers spread across the country, the society organizes events, awareness campaigns, and fundraising drives, the most notable being the MS Walk and Bike MS. These initiatives aim not only to raise funds but also to build a sense of community among those affected by the disease.

The National Multiple Sclerosis Society’s relentless efforts have led to significant advancements in treatment options, a deeper understanding of the disease, and enhanced resources for those living with MS. Their work epitomizes the belief that together, we can create a world free of MS.

Greenway Metal Recycling supports Make-A-Wish Foundation

The Make-A-Wish Foundation is a renowned nonprofit organization dedicated to granting life-changing wishes for children diagnosed with critical illnesses. Founded in 1980 in the United States, the foundation was inspired by the heartfelt wish of a 7-year-old boy named Chris Greicius, who dreamt of becoming a police officer. Since that initial spark, Make-A-Wish has grown exponentially, reaching out to thousands of children across the country and around the globe.

With a presence in nearly 50 countries worldwide, the organization believes that a wish experience can be a pivotal point of strength, joy, and inspiration for children battling severe health conditions. These wishes range from meeting favorite celebrities, traveling to dream destinations, becoming a certain profession for a day, to having a special item they’ve always wanted.

The foundation operates primarily through the efforts of dedicated volunteers, generous donors, and supportive partners. The impact of a granted wish is profound, not only uplifting the spirits of the child but also providing respite and hope to their families, often instilling a renewed sense of vigor to fight the illness. The Make-A-Wish Foundation stands as a testament to the power of human kindness, and the immense difference that can be made when communities come together to bring joy into the lives of those in need.

St Jude Children's Research Hospital

St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is an internationally recognized healthcare institution dedicated to treating and defeating pediatric catastrophic diseases, primarily focusing on pediatric cancers. Founded in 1962 by entertainer Danny Thomas, the hospital operates under a noble mission: no child is denied treatment based on race, religion, or a family’s ability to pay.

Situated in Memphis, Tennessee, St. Jude’s has made significant strides in increasing the survival rates for numerous childhood cancers. Through its groundbreaking research and innovative treatments, the survival rate for acute lymphoblastic leukemia, for instance, has increased from 4% before the institution’s opening to over 90% today.

A cornerstone of St. Jude’s philosophy is ensuring that families never receive a bill for treatment, travel, housing, or food. This commitment ensures that parents can focus on what’s most important: their child’s well-being.

St. Jude’s also shares its research findings freely with the global medical community. This spirit of collaboration and generosity means that one child saved at St. Jude translates to thousands more saved worldwide.

Through its tireless efforts, state-of-the-art facilities, and dedication to holistic patient care, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital stands as a beacon of hope for families worldwide, embodying the belief that together, catastrophic pediatric diseases can be defeated.

Little League Baseball supported by Greenway

Little League® Baseball and Softball stands as the world’s largest organized youth sports program, with millions of players and volunteers participating in communities across the globe. Established in 1939 in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, by Carl E. Stotz, this iconic institution was created with the idea of providing a wholesome avenue for children to play and learn the game of baseball.

Over the decades, Little League has expanded its reach, incorporating softball and creating divisions to cater to various age groups, while upholding its core values of sportsmanship, teamwork, and community. The organization emphasizes not just the skills of the game, but the development of character, discipline, and citizenship in its young athletes.

One of the most celebrated events organized by the Little League is the annual Little League World Series, which draws teams from around the world to compete in Williamsport. This event showcases the talent, determination, and camaraderie of young players and has become a beloved summer tradition for many.

Little League® Baseball and Softball, with its rich history and global impact, serves as more than just a sports program. It is a community-building initiative that brings together players, families, and fans, teaching valuable life lessons and creating memories that last a lifetime.

St. Baldrick's Foundation

St. Baldrick’s Foundation is a distinctive non-profit organization with a mission deeply rooted in the fight against pediatric cancers. Established in 2000, the foundation emerged from a simple challenge among friends that transformed into a global movement dedicated to raising funds for childhood cancer research.

St. Baldrick’s is perhaps best known for its unique fundraising events where volunteers, known as “shavees”, pledge to shave their heads in solidarity with children who often lose their hair during cancer treatments. These signature head-shaving events, held in communities, schools, and workplaces around the world, are both a powerful statement of support and a means to generate essential funding.

The foundation’s efforts have been instrumental in driving forward research into childhood cancers, which are distinct from adult cancers and demand specialized studies. Through the funds they raise, St. Baldrick’s supports the most promising research projects, grants, and initiatives, ensuring that more children not only survive their cancer diagnosis but thrive afterward without long-term side effects.

Driven by the belief that every child deserves a chance at a healthy future, St. Baldrick’s Foundation, with its army of volunteers, donors, and researchers, stands as a beacon of hope and commitment in the global effort to conquer childhood cancers.
